RIP John Hughes

I’m sad to hear about the untimely passing of director John Hughes. He gave me a lot of laughs in the ’80s and ’90s. Here’s one of my favorite scenes from Career Opportunities:

Summermobybleucars

I’ve just turned in a MOJO blog about favorite summer songs. It should be up this week or next. I’ll post the link.

Now I’m putting the finishing touches on a short feature on Moby, for Bark. That might seem like a strange match – Moby in a dog magazine – but he is very active in his support of animal rights and the Humane Society.

On Monday, I co-wrote two songs with Bleu, a great songwriter and all-around pop whiz from L.A. I heartily recommend his new album A Watched Pot.

I’ve been spending a lot of time on Craigslist and eBay Motors, looking for a used car. I know I should get something solid and dependable, like a Honda or Volvo. But part of me wants to get an old Ford Falcon or Studebaker Lark. Probably wouldn’t be very practical though.p1010921

I Chicken Guy

A few years ago, I was in a taxi in Chicago, and the driver, a middle-aged Chinese guy, was talking about his hardships. “You get kicked around, but that’s life,” he said. And though he didn’t think of himself as a particularly hardy, courageous person, he felt he’d persevere. Or as he so poetically put it: “I chicken guy, but I fight to the end.”
