I found this picture of me with my first electric guitar. Second best Xmas present ever, behind
the green Schwinn 3-speed . . .

New album
On the new album front . . . Molly and I have recorded basic tracks and vocals for seventeen songs. We’ll be doing final
overdubs in the coming weeks, with an eye towards mixing with Brad Jones at the end of
December. Titles include “Caprice,” “Precious Bryant,” “Once I Lived In London,” “Down On Love” and “Under The Palms” -
with a sound that ranges from rockabilly to Left Banke-ish pop to Hawaiian-flavored ukulele tunes.

Happy Halloween! I’ve written a piece for the MOJO blog about Bobby “Boris” Pickett
and his “Monster Mash.”

The current blog for Rock’s Back Pages reprints part of a lengthy piece on
Burt Bacharach I wrote in 1997 for a Japanese fashion magazine.
Neal Hefti

Trumpet player, arranger, composer extraordinaire Neal Hefti is dead at 85. Most famously,
Hefti wrote the themes for TV shows like Batman and The Odd Couple. But we especially love
the groovy soundtrack he did for Barefoot In The Park, and the overlooked album he arranged
called Sinatra and Swingin’ Brass. RIP Mr. Hefti.
